Very interesting article, few contradictions, and some facts and some talk. Reality and comparisons. What can we do about it? Hopefully something, but currently nothing.

Its very simple: Beirut is Beirut and Dubai is Dubai.

Americans and tourists worldwide who seeks culture, good fun and food would love Beirut. Others who seek wealth exaggeration, good fun and food would love Dubai. To add more, those who hate very hot and humid weather would not tolerate Dubai’s weather, and those who love a country with four seasons than they would certainly love Beirut.

Stability versus Liberal living. Beirut can be periodically unstable and Dubai is in several aspects a Not Liberal country. At the end its a pick and choose decision.

So good luck in your trip.
